One of the most difficult things to prepare for is a job interview. It’s important. You also never know exactly what will happen – it all depends on the person interviewing you.
However, there are three easy ways to prepare for every single interview.
This will help you be more confident, communicate clearly, and connect with the hiring manager.
Tailor Your Answers to Each Company
Not everyone remembers to do this. If your cover letter or interview answers can be given to every single company you apply to, they are not specific enough.
Read the company’s website and mission statement.
Talk about how your personal goals and values align with your potential employer’s goals and values!
Practice Your “About Me” Speech
They’ve seen your resume (or CV). They’ve read your cover letter. Now, it’s time to make it interesting.
This “About Me” speech is a great test of your presentation skills.
Give the interviewer a reason to care about your professional journey. Why did you start the path you’re on? What have you accomplished in your working years – and why are you proud of it?
Once you decide what you’re going to say… use your bathroom mirror and PRACTICE.
Connect with Your Interviewer Through Mirroring
People like people they feel connected with. How can you help your interviewer feel this way?
Act like a mirror.
If they lean in, you should lean in. If they are smiling, you should be smiling.
Don’t be too dramatic, but the more you can subtly mirror the interviewer’s behavior back at them, the more connected you’ll be.
